It started in a kitchen in Italy.

Luce di Mattina is the dream of an Italian chef who grew up believing that food is how you tell people you love them. His first memories are of a family kitchen at dawn: the moka pot bubbling on the stove, bread warming in the oven, his nonna dusting a torta della nonna with icing sugar and pretending not to notice a small hand stealing pine nuts from the top.

Years in professional kitchens taught him technique. Home taught him what matters — good ingredients, treated simply, shared generously. When he settled in Bromley he missed one thing more than anything: the bar on the corner. The place where you stand for a quick espresso, where the barista knows your order, where lunch is a panino built in front of you and the afternoon ends with something to share.

So he built one. Luce di Mattina — “morning light” — is that corner bar, on Chatterton Road. Every panino is homemade, the prosciutto di Parma and mortadella are sliced to order, the cannoli are filled the way they are in Sicily, and the coffee is pulled short and served with a smile. It’s the taste of home, cooked by someone who left it and never stopped missing it.
